Harvesting in April

So far, I've had radishes and a two person meal sized salad's portion of lettuce harvested. I haven't gotten around to posting about the harvests on Mondays though, but here they are! The radishes are much bigger this year than they've been in the past, and far more mild. I've enjoyed just snacking on a bowl full!

I planted a lot of red lettuces this year, and I think so much that we may have a "red salad" night at some point. The spinach that's growing is getting chewed on, so there just isn't nearly as much green without it.  I am getting some spinach though, which is an improvement from past years.

Some of my first radishes... hubby had the camera at school, so this is from my phone.

  1. Hi! Your lettuce and radishes look good! I have had a few greens from my garden but no radishes ready yet. I have just started my garden blog in March. I have a small garden. Come take a peek when you have time! Nancy at Cozy Thyme Cottage

    1. Thanks! I have some really quick growing radishes-- saxa radishes from Henry Fields, they are supposed to be 18 days from planting to harvest. I don't think I've ever gotten quite that quick, but they are definitely pretty fast.

  2. I have tried radishes three times now. I have had no luck whatsoever. I have about 5 little radishes in there, but they don't look too good. The reason I keep trying is that my middle daughter wants to try them homegrown. :)

    Your radishes look great.

    1. I don't think they are anything extra special homegrown, but they are pretty. Is your soil hard? The area where I have them planted in this year had our compost pile sitting on top of it last year, and has been amended with compost in the past. Two years ago, the radishes I planted in this location did nothing, and they've been absolutely perfect this year, minus small bug damage from roly pollies. Maybe try them in a long planter, with some potting soil, and see how they do!
