Garden Planning

I've had a lot of time to do some garden dreaming this past week. When I sub in a high school, and am given plans that say, "Show this movie, and collect corresponding worksheet at the end of the hour", I get a lot of time to plan. I brought my seeds with me, and made a rough inventory of what I've got, and did some organization.

Here is my original sketch and dreaming sheet:

I was able to start some seeds on Friday, things I planted were:
Vivian Lettuce
Little Caesar Lettuce
Valeria Lettuce
Buttercrunch Lettuce
Romaine Lettuce
California Wonder Bells
Carnival Mix Bells

So far, I've already got some lettuce seedlings that have germinated.

I spent the weekend in Oxford, Mississippi to see a band play with some friends. We had a nice road trip from 50 degrees to 72 degree weather. I thoroughly enjoyed the break. We were able to do some site seeing on Sunday, which included a trip to William Faulkner's Homestead. We weren't able to take the tour inside, but we led ourselves on a tour of the grounds, and it was a lot of fun for my imagination. The weather made me REALLY want to garden!

Here is my pencil and paper sketch for the 2011 garden year. I included several stages, because I am going to try to use the garden area well this year, so I've included plants that will be planted together, but will later be removed when their seasons are over, or when they will overcrowd the next plants coming in.

Harvest Friday :)

I missed 67 degree weather this Sunday, because I spent it in Pennsylvania welcoming my sister's baby boy into the world! I guess my nephew can be considered a harvest of sorts! (Though I had NOTHING to do with planting it!)

My husband ate some of my lettuce while I was gone. I don't have a picture of that, but it probably looks the same as last week.

Our weather is INSANE this week, we've gone to highs in the 20s with snow, and more snow, and ice, to a week ranging from the 50's-70's, for at least a week straight. That's St. Louis weather for you. It'll truly be nice to have a little break from the cold. Maybe we'll move the leaves off of the garden over by the compost so that when the time comes, the ground will be ready.

I hope everyone is enjoying either their gardens or their dreams of one.

Harvest Monday

My husband and I enjoyed a salad for him and a wrap for me on Saturday with our second harvest of lettuce! Here's the before shot:
Here's the after shot:

Here's the harvest!

My broccoli seedlings have sprouted, which meant I had to bring the shelves back upstairs for the growing season. I moved my Pineapple tomato plant in there as well so that I could lower the Aerogarden lights back down after I cut the lettuce. As of today, all but two of the cells have at least one of the broccoli seeds sprouted! I was unable to get a sub job today, so it looks like I've got plenty of time to do some more planning!

If you want to see what everyone else is harvesting, head over to Daphne's Dandelions to check it out!
